Antony didn’t do ‘anywhere near enough’ at the City Ground (Picture: Getty)
Alan Shearer singled out Antony for criticism during Manchester United’s 1-0 FA Cup win over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday night.
Casemiro scored the only goal of the match in the 89th minute at the City Ground as the Red Devils booked their place in the quarter-finals.
Erik ten Hag’s side reached the final last season and Wayne Rooney feels that the competition is United’s only chance of securing major silverware this term.
But their 1-0 win over Forest was far from perfect and Shearer took aim at Antony after another disappointing showing as he was replaced in the 73rd minute.
‘He might be disappointed he’s coming off but he hasn’t done anywhere near enough to warrant staying on the pitch tonight,’ Shearer told the BBC.
‘Same old, same old, get the ball, come inside, pass it to someone else or have a shot. It’s not enough when you cost that much money.’
Antony has largely struggled at Old Trafford since he moved to the club from Ajax in a deal worth £86m two years ago.
