FA Cup quarter-final draw produces potential blockbuster clash

The draw for the quarter-finals of the FA Cup has been made and there are some potentially mammoth clashes to come.

There are still four fifth round matches to be played on Wednesday evening so we are waiting to find out the line-up for the last eight.

Manchester United and Liverpool fans will be hoping both teams progress and they get to face each other in the quarter-finals, although obviously Nottingham Forest and Southampton have other ideas.

Either Wolves or Brighton will take on Championship outfit Coventry City, while Chelsea and Leeds play on Wednesday for the chance to host Leicester.

The only guaranteed quarter-final tie sees Manchester City host Newcastle United.

There are four fifth round ties still to be played on Wednesday night to complete the quarter-final line-up.

Chelsea host Leeds, Nottingham Forest welcome Manchester United to the City Ground, Brighton go to Wolves and Liverpool meet Southampton at Anfield.

Monday night saw Coventry City hammer Maidstone United 5-0 to book their spot in the last eight, while there were plenty of goals on Tuesday at Kenilworth Road as well, with Manchester City beating Luton 6-2 and Erling Haaland bagging five.

It was cagier elsewhere as Leicester City beat Bournemouth 1-0 away from home and Newcastle United needed penalties to edge out Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park after a 1-1 draw.

When are the quarter-final matches?

The games will be played over the weekend of 16-17 March.

The semi-finals follow on the weekend of 20 April, with the final on 25 May.
