The Crown Prosecution Service said it has authorised a charge of conspiracy to conduct espionage against a sixth person suspected of spying for Russia Provider: EPA
A sixth Bulgarian national residing in the UK has been accused of spying for Russia.
Tihomir Ivanchev, from Acton, west London, has been charged with conspiracy to conduct espionage.,
The 38-year-old joins three men and two women from London and Norfolk who were charged with such offences, believed to be carried out between August 2020 and February 2023.
He is alleged to have conspired with them to collect information for the Kremlin.
Orlin Roussev, 45, Bizer Dzhambazov, 41, Katrin Ivanova, 31, Ivan Stoyanov, 31, and Vanya Gaberova, 29, were all arrested and charged last year.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said in a statement: ‘Tihomir Ivanchev will be charged with conspiring to obtain, collect, record, publish or communicate documents or information which might be or was intended to be directly or indirectly useful for a purpose prejudicial to the safety and interest of the state.’
Ivanchev was arrested on February 7 and later bailed. He was then charged earlier today and will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
