Three people including a child had to be rescued by a helicopter when they became trapped by the tide coming in.

They were out on a beach walk in Dorset when they realised they were unable to get back to where they started.

A lifeboat from nearby Weymouth tried to reach them, but despite being able to see them was unable to reach them due to the large waves at Kimmeridge Bay.

They therefore had to be winched to safety by a coastguard helicopter, scrambled from North Wales.

The trio raised the alarm at 6.15pm and were stuck for almost two hours before they were all lifted off the beach by 8pm.

Kimmeridge Bay, part of the Jurassic Coast, is a sheltered rocky bay with no sand, known as the best spot for rockpooling in Dorset. It is also a popular spot for snorkelling when the tide is in.
