Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney says he would ‘walk’ to Manchester City in order to work with Pep Guardiola.
The 38-year-old was sacked at Birmingham City in January, after just 83 days in charge at the club.
The United legend remains determined to forge out a career for himself in management as a head coach.
But Rooney says he would be willing to take a different role – as an assistant – if the right offer was made.

Asked by Gary Neville on the Overlap, sponsored by Sky Bet, if he would consider becoming an assistant manager, Rooney said: ‘It depends. If Pep Guardiola comes in and asks me to be his assistant, you’d walk there!
‘But if you see what Arteta is doing now at Arsenal, I strongly believe a lot of that is from learning what Guardiola was doing and so it depends on what the situation is.’
Rooney famously handed in a transfer request at Manchester United in 2010.
Manchester City, who had yet to win a Premier League title, were in the running to sign Rooney.
Rooney denies his decision to hand in a transfer request was due to interest from City.
‘There was Real Madrid, Barcelona, Chelsea (as well as City),’ Rooney said.
