Putin critic Alexei Navalny posted a tragic Valentine’s Day message to his wife just hours before his death.
Navalny, 47, has died in prison in what is likely to be seen as a political assassination by the Kremlin.
The post on Instagram reads: ‘Babe, we have everything like in a song: cities between us, airport runway lights, blue blizzards and thousands of kilometers. But I feel you are near me every second, and I love you more and more.’
Navalny’s wife Yulia Navalnaya has hit out and blasted the regime and Putin in Russia saying they are personally responsible for what is happening to the country.
She said at the Munich Security Conference: ‘That regime and Vladimir Putin have to be personally liable for all the horrible things happening in my country in the last few years.’
The cause of his death was initially given as a ‘detached blood clot’ and that he
felt unwell after a walk on Friday and lost consciousness.

An ambulance arrived to try to rehabilitate him, but without success and he died.
Putin’s spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said: ‘As far as we know, in line with all the existing rules, the FSIN [prison service] are running all the checks and establishing… all of that.
‘No orders are needed for that because there is a certain set of rules for these occasions.’
Asked if it was true there was a blood clot, he added: “I don’t know, I don’t know… The medics should establish.’
He was one of Putin’s most fiercest critics and was seen as a person that Putin feared the most.
Time and again Navalny criticised Putin calling him a ‘madman’, his ruling party ‘crooks and thieves’ and publishing documents showing their crimes.
He was imprisoned for 19 years behind bars in August after being found guilty of creating an extremist community, financing extremist activities and many other crimes.
