Emmanuel Petit feels Xabi Alonso would be the perfect replacement for Mauricio Pochettino if Todd Boehly decides to sack the Chelsea head coach.
Pochettino is under pressure at Stamford Bridge amid a poor first season at the helm with Jose Mourinho among the favourites to take over next.
Petit, though, feels Bayer Leverkusen boss Alonso, who has been strongly linked to the Liverpool job, would be a better suit for the west Londoners.
Alonso has led Bayer Leverkusen to the summit of the Bundesliga table and they are five points clear of Bayern Munich having beaten Thomas Tuchel’s side 3-0 on Saturday.
‘I think that Chelsea need a proper manager with a vision, just like what [Mikel] Arteta had for Arsenal,’ Petit told Betway.
‘But they need to give him time to implement what he wants to do with the players.
‘Mourinho is free, so he could be an option. But he’s not my preference, there are new managers who are doing great things.
