Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has praised Jose Mourinho but says the Magpies should stick by Eddie Howe.
The former Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United manager has been linked with a return to England since being sacked by Roma last month.
Pressure had been growing on Howe after four consecutive defeats over Christmas against Chelsea, Luton, Nottingham Forest and Liverpool.
However, the Magpies’ form has improved in recent weeks, with Howe’s side taking three wins from their last four.
And Shearer says that Howe has done enough for the Newcastle board to persevere with him, despite the ‘amazing’ Mourinho being available.

‘He has had an amazing career, Jose,’ Shearer told The Rest Is Football Podcast.
‘Where he goes next I’m not sure.
‘But, no, I am very happy with Eddie Howe at Newcastle and the job he has done and the role he is doing.’
Newcastle resume their Premier League campaign against Howe’s former side, Bournemouth, on Saturday.
The Magpies are 11 points adrift of Spurs in fourth place, though fifth could be enough for a Champions League spot depending on how English clubs fare in European competition this season.
