Manchester United are closely monitoring Bayer Leverkusen duo Jeremie Frimpong and Edmond Tapsoba, and would be willing to sell two players to sign the defenders.

Tapsoba and Frimpong have been crucial elements of Xabi Alonso’s side this season, and their performances have not gone unnoticed across Europe.

Leverkusen beat rivals Bayern Munich 3-0 on Saturday to take a five-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga table.

Frimpong, a Dutch international, scored the third when he emerged from the bench and Tapsoba started.

The Dutchman was on United’s wishlist in 2023, with Erik ten Hag keen to sign a more offensively-minded right-back to challenge Diogo Dalot.

But Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s mid-season form convinced United to shelve plans to sign Frimpong.

However, with Wan-Bissaka out of contract in 2025, the Manchester Evening News say United are willing to sell him this summer to make way for Frimpong.

Tapsoba, a centre-back, had attracted attention from Tottenham last summer.

The 25-year-old opted to remain in Germany, much to the delight of Alonso.

But his performances this campaign have been superb and it’s claimed United could sell Victor Lindelof to make way for Tapsoba.

Lindelof, like Wan-Bissaka, has a 18 months to run on his deal.

Therefore, this summer is likely the last opportunity that the club would have to gain good money for the Sweden international.

Jonny Evans, 36, is also out of contract at the end of the season and is likely to be released.
