Bayern Munich launched last-minute bid to sign Chelsea flop Mykhailo Mudryk in January transfer window

Bayern Munich were unsuccessful in a late bid to sign Chelsea Mykhailo Mudryk during the January transfer window.

Chelsea spent nearly £90m to sign the Ukrainian international from Shakhtar Donetsk in last season’s January transfer window, hijacking a bid from Arsenal to secure the pacey winger’s signature.

Mudryk, however, has struggled badly at Stamford Bridge, notching up just three goals in 44 Premier League appearances so far.

The 23-year-old may not have attracted much praise for his stint in west London so far, but the Ukrainian still has his admirers.

One of those is Bayern Munich who, according to Fabrizio Romano, plotted a last-ditch bid to sign the winger last month which Chelsea quickly rebuffed.

‘Before bringing in Bryan Zaragoza, Bayern, they asked about the possibility of signing Mykhaylo Mudryk from Chelsea,’ Romano said, speaking on his Here We Go Podcast.

‘He is a player appreciated by Bayern and they feel in this moment he is not playing on a regular basis and so they tried.

‘But from Chelsea, there was not even a discussion and in hours Bayern knew it was not possible to discuss for Mudryk.’

Alongside the signing of Zaragoza, the German giants moved to bring in Eric Dier and Sacha Boey in an attempt to alleviate the defensive concerns within Thomas Tuchel’s squad.

Those issues have not subsided, though, with a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Bayern Leverkusen putting the defending Bundesliga champions five points behind Xabi Alonso’s table-topping side.
