Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that the Super Eagles gave their best but was just unfortunate not to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday.
Recall that two goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller gave Ivory Coast a 2-1 victory over the Super Eagles.
Captain William Troost-Ekong did score a goal for Peseiro’s side during the encounter.
Reacting via hos official X handle, Sanwo-Olu noted that in victory and in loss, the Super Eagles has done Nigerians proud, and we will fondly remember this AFCON as a powerful force that brought everyone together.

He also lauded the performance of William Troost-Ekong and hailed him for winning the Player of the Tournament.
“A very sad loss for the Super Eagles. They gave their all in this tournament, but in the end, it was left to fine margins,” the governor tweeted.
“Over the course of the tournament, we brought together thousands of people to enjoy football across 25 viewing centres as our team carried the hopes and dreams of the nation.
“In victory and in loss, this team has done us proud, and we will fondly remember this AFCON as a powerful force that brought us all together.
“Congratulations to William Troost-Ekong for being crowned the AFCON Player of the Tournament.
“Well done to our champs, let’s rebuild and go again.”
