Nigeria’s Super Eagles are in control for their fourth AFCON title chase by leading the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 1-0 in the first half of the final match at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament in Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday night.
Captain Williams Troost-Ekong headed Nigeria into the lead from a corner in the 38th minute to silence the Ivoirians inside the stadium.
Only a small group of the Ivorian fans have remained consistently drumming up support for the stunned Elephants.
Nigeria are where they want to be, in the lead and in control of the tempo of the game, which is now in the second half.
Earlier, both teams advanced from Group A, with Equatorial Guinea topping the table with a joint seven points and three goals difference ahead of Nigeria. However, the Elephants made it out to the next stage as the fourth third-place team.
