Toby Keith has died at the age of 62, his social media has announced.
The country musician’s X, formerly Twitter, account shared a statement today revealing Keith died last night.
‘Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on February 5th, surrounded by his family. He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time,’ the message read, giving no further details.
The US icon– known for his Billboard number one hit, Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue – was diagnosed with stomach cancer in 2021.
Posting a statement to Instagram in 2022, Keith wrote: ‘Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery.’
Over his career, Keith had 42 top ten hits in the US, 32 number one songs, and he sold 40 million albums after his debut single Should’ve Been a Cowboy rocketed him to fame in the 1990s.
