A British man has died after suffering a heavy fall in the French Alps.
The 30-year-old died at the Serre Chevalier resort in the La Salle-les-Alpes and was taken to hospital last week, but died overnight.
He is the second British national to die in the alps within days, following a 63-year-old British national collapsing and dying after suffering a heart attack on the slopes.
France’s BFMTV said the skier was ‘brain dead’ when being transported to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Patrick Arnaud, the head of Serre Chevalier Resort, told Le Dauphine: ‘The victim was discovered by a patroller who immediately raised the alarm.
‘Joined by several other trackers, they provided first aid. All the ski area teams are affected by this tragedy and all our thoughts are with the family.’
An investigation has been opened into the incident, according to Marion Lozac’hmeur, the area’s local public prosecutor.
