The Hon. Minister of Sports Development Sen. John Owan Enoh has revealed that the ministry is ready to partner with schools in the development of a sports research curriculum, in collaboration with expatriates
The Minister disclosed this when the Vice Chancellor, David Umahi Federal University of Health Science paid him a courtesy visit in his office at Mashood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja recently.
Senator Enoh noted that the idea to conduct research on sports programmes is relevant and on point and that will bring the nations sporting activities in line with global best practices in schools.
The Minister commended the Vice Chancellor for taking the bold step to initiate it and for coming around as all is geared towards achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr President towards the nation’s sports industry.
“Ebonyi State is a home out side home that is equally the admiration of other State” because of her fast development ,that includes their airport and the facilities put in place.
The minister expressed his joy to the state for pioneering sports management beyond athletics. He further revealed his intension that aside making sports business oriented, he wishes in his tenure, to transform the Nigerian Institute of Sports(NIS) to become an outstanding University of Sports.
Earlier in his address, the Vice Chancellor Prof. Jesse Uneke disclosed that the University is a full fledged Federal University of Health Science and that his wish is to institute a strong sports research center that will exchange programmes for Sports Leadership, sports administration and sports support personnel.
The Vice Chancellor thereafter requested for the Ministry’s assistance in the areas of Coaching Education, Curriculum Development, Sports Education, Sports Management, Sports Infrastructure Development Management Information Technology as it concerns sports in the country.
