Tottenham star James Maddison has revealed what he said to Neal Maupay after the Brentford striker mimicked the playmaker’s celebration.
The Frenchman opened the scoring against Spurs on Wednesday, and celebrated by imitating Maddison’s ‘darts’ celebration.
But the former Brighton striker ended up with egg on his face as Spurs fought back to win 3-2, with Brennan Johnson hitting back by doing the celebration when he made it 2-1.
Maddison, a big darts fan, has been doing the celebration since his time at Leicester.
As Maupay made his way back to the centre circle after scoring, he had a tussle with Maddison that threatened to turn ugly.
And Maddison has revealed how he mocked the striker.
‘I just said to him, he hasn’t scored enough goals of his own in the last few years to have his own celebration, so he had to copy mine,’ said Maddison.
‘Short story, ended well for us.’
It was Maddison’s first start for Spurs after nearly three months out with a hamstring injury.
The victory helped Ange Postecoglou’s side into fourth.
