Putin’s mad eyes and gurning faces further fuel rumours of his ill health

Fresh from being asked on a date by Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko, Vladimir Putin has been caught pulling some rather unusual faces.

The strange display, filmed during a meeting between the two premiers on Monday, has added fuel to the rumours that the Russian president’s health is declining.

Putin, 71, is known for appearing stoic during public appearances – but he displayed an unusually wide range of emotion during the meeting in St Petersburg.

Putin and Lukashenko were discussing how they could deepen the already close alliance between their countries – which has already seen Russia store some of its nuclear weapons in Belarus.

It follows discussions about Russia’s new scientific research base in Antarctica – which Lukashenko excitedly suggested they visit together.

During the meeting, Putin described the significance of their relationship, especially during times of increased pressure from other countries.

But a more interesting topic, some might say, were the bizarre facial expressions Putin pulled while sat next to Lukashenko.

One picture in a series of fascinating snaps shows him with his eyebrows raised high as if in shock, while another has him with his forehead furrowed, eyes wide, and lips smacked together.

The extreme range of his emotional spectrum could be a sign his health is in poor shape, as has long been rumoured.

He was recently spotted looking so unwell and bloated that he claimed even his friends didn’t recognise him, and back in December he refused to stand within 70ft of Britain’s ambassador to Moscow for ‘sanitary reasons’.

Many have speculated he is showing signs of a brain tumour, multiple sclerosis, or Parkinson’s disease – as well as suggestions that he frequently uses body doubles.
