Mystery flashes appear above Russian city where 13,000 tonne meteor once struck

Mystery is surrounding flashes of ‘acid-green’ and ‘yellow-green’ over a city in Russia where a 13,000 tonne meteor struck Earth.

Footage shows the light appearing in the sky over Chelyabinsk and Podolsk, which are some 1,150 miles – and two time zones – apart.

Authorities have been unable to explain what the connection between the cities is, one sitting on the eastern flank of the Ural Mountains and the other in the region of Moscow.

Chelyabinsk is where an asteroid struck the atmosphere over the Ural Mountains in Russia at a speed of more than 11 miles per hour.

The rock exploded in the atmosphere at a distance of 18 miles, releasing as much as half a megaton of energy, the equivalent to 35 Hiroshima-sized bombs.

The explosion created a flash that was brighter than the Sun – and as not without consequences.

At least 7,000 buildings across three cities, including Chelyabinsk, were damaged and 1,500 people rushed to hospital with injuries.

The flashes have left Russians to speculate what the cause is, with some pointing the finger at aliens, and others suggesting meteors.

Both Chelyabinsk and Podolsk are reportedly homes to secretive Russian defence plants, but no specific incidents related to an attack by Ukraine have been reported.

People said this is ‘a new type of American weapon’, while others blamed aliens.

‌Tsargrad media wrote: ‘Residents observed a mysterious green flash early in the morning in Podolsk near Moscow.

‌’Judging by the reaction, the phenomenon seriously alarmed and frightened some of the local residents – nothing like this had ever happened here before.’

The reports in Podolsk came after a similar incident in Chelyabinsk on Monday evening.

The city authorities claimed the cause was a ‘short-circuit’ at a power facility of the Rosseti Ural electricity supply company.

‌’Residents of three settlements remain without electricity,’ said the company.
