The Nigeria Police said all suspects arrested in connection with the attack on a serving lawmaker, Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho, alongside his colleagues at the government house in Lokoja will be charged to Court immediately to serve as a deterrent to others.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer SP William Ovye Aya disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.
DAILY POST gathered that upon the attack on Senator Echocho, the operatives of the Kogi State Police Command attached to the Quick Response Unit promptly swung into action and apprehended six suspects in connection with the incident.
Aya, who quoted the Commissioner of Police in Kogi CP Bethrand. Onuoha, to have condemned the attack, described the incident on the serving lawmaker as very unfortunate, unwarranted and despicable.
The Police spokesperson further disclosed that CP Onuoha has ordered a discreet investigation of the incident.
He appealed to the good people of the state to remain law abiding and continue to collaborate with the Police and other Security Agencies and volunteer timely and credible information on the activities of criminal elements in the state.
DAILY POST recalls that Senator Echocho was allegedly singled out by suspected thugs on Tuesday at the government house in Lokoja, accusing him of being responsible for APC’s poor performance in the last governorship election in Kogi East senatorial district.
He was in the company of other members of the National Assembly to congratulate Governor Yahaya Bello over the victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the November 11th 2023 Governorship election in Kogi State.
