Sevilla are reportedly trying to sign young Chelsea star David Datro Fofana who is currently enduring a nightmare loan spell at Union Berlin.

Fofana moved from Molde to Stamford Bridge in January 2022 in a deal worth £10.6million, but would make just four appearances under former Blues boss Graham Potter.

The striker headed off on loan to Union Berlin for this season but his time in Germany has not been productive at all, with just two goals in 17 appearances so far.

Moreover, the club suspended the 21-year-old for a match after he refused to shake hands with then-manager Urs Fischer after getting subbed off during a Champions League game.

Even a change in the dugout has not improved Fofana’s fortunes, with his lack of form costing him a place in the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

As a result, there are rumours that Chelsea could recall their player in January and send him back out on loan somewhere else, as is the case with Andrey Santos following his lack of minutes at Nottingham Forest.

And The Athletic are among those reporting that Sevilla are willing to provide that exact escape route for Fofana.

The Spanish side are already in talks with the Blues over a loan deal for the striker, whom they hope can remedy their goal-scoring woes.

As well as finishing bottom of their Champions League group, Sevilla have found the back of the net just 23 times in 19 La Liga games this season, form that has left them just a point above the relegation zone.

It is also said that they are trying to sign midfielder Lucien Agoume on loan from Inter Milan.

Union Berlin are also hovering just above the drop zone and Fofana will be in contention to play for them against Freiburg next week when the Bundesliga resumes.
