Cage fighter and MMA champion killed after car went off a cliff

Renata Corrêa Baldan died in the crash on Wednesday morning

A former cage fighter has been killed after her car plunged down from a 33ft cliff in Brazil.

Renata Corrêa Baldan, 41, died in the crash on Wednesday morning in Ubatuba, in the state of São Paulo.

Authorities believe the mum-of-four, who was a former MMA, Muay Thai, and Jiu-jitsu fighter, lost control of the vehicle as she took a curve on the motorway.

Her car overturned, smashed into a tree, and fell down the high cliff, according to local media.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where they found Ms Baldan trapped in the wreckage all alone. She died from her injuries at the scene.

After her death was confirmed, tributes have been paid to the former martial arts champion who was also once crowned Miss Ubatuba.

One of her three sons wrote on social media: ‘Thank you all for the messages. They have been a great help.

‘This time is incredibly delicate for me, but I appreciate everyone who’s by my side. I love you, Mum.’
