Jaw-dropping moment surgeon removes bullet from heart while it’s still beating

Video footage shows the ammunition being gently removed from a Ukrainian soldier

A video has captured the incredible moment a cardiac surgeon in Ukraine removed a bullet from the beating heart of a wounded soldier.

The footage shows a close-up of the patient’s pulsating heart as Dr Boris Mikhailovich Todurov uses tools to gently extract the 7.62mm bullet.

The video, shared by Ukrainian news site Censor.NET, was shot at The Heart Institute in Kiev and published on messaging service Telegram.

It notes that the soldier survived the operation and is recovering, adding: ‘Congratulations to the team of professionals of the Heart Institute and its head – Boris Mikhailovich Todurov.’

Last April, similar footage of medics removing a bullet from a beating Ukrainian soldier’s heart was also shared online.

A video shows doctors at Feofaniya Hospital in Kyiv make careful incisions before pulling out the round.

Despite the major procedure, the soldier was up on his feet and smiling not long after, apparently eager to get back to the battlefield as soon as he could.

Whether he’d be quite as keen now is questionable, with the war against Russia dragging on into its second winter and the Ukrainian frontline becoming more merciless.

Videos circulating on social media show the brutal conditions endured by Ukrainian soldiers manoeuvring trench systems as they fight to stave off relentless artillery fire.
