Osimhen is aiming to become the first Nigerian since 1999 to win the award, as the last time a Nigerian won the award was Nwankwo Kanu during his time at Arsenal.
The Napoli star is now in competition with Liverpool and Egypt forward, Mohamed Salah and Morocco and Paris St-Germain’s Achref Hakimi.
Salah helped Liverpool finish fifth in the Premier League last season. Hakimi helped Morocco go all the way to the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
In the women’s Player of the Year category, Asisat Oshoala will battle South Africa’s Thembi Kgatlana and Barbara Banda of Zambia.
The CAF Player of the Year awards will be handed to the winner at a gala night billed to hold in Marrakech, Morocco on Monday, 11 December, 2023.
