Criminals far ahead of security measures—Ex-IGP Okiro

Former Inspector General of Police Mike Okiro has advised the Federal Government to fight insecurity with technology rather than manpower, insisting that criminals are ahead of the security measures mapped out against them by the various security agencies.

Okiro spoke at the Old Seminarians Association of Nigeria (OSAN) convention on Friday, noting that the nation’s security architecture and technology must be upgraded and deployed effectively to tackle insecurity.

In his keynote address at the convention, Dr Ozichukwu Fidelis Chukwu said the situation in Nigeria presently, given its myriad of problems, is one of hopelessness and citizens’ helplessness.

“The theme for this convention, “Building our Fraternity for Prosperity,” is good but it must extend to the Nigerian society that is in a state of hopelessness and citizens’ helplessness.

“In doing that, we need to add more values to society and serve as role models in whatever positions we find ourselves in,” he said.
