Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has congratulated Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie on his maiden invitation to the Super Eagles.
Obasogie was handed a late invitation for the Super Eagles 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and Zimbabwe on Monday to replace Udinese goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who pulled out due to injury.
Governor Obaseki, who was highly excited about the development, took to his official X handle to congratulate the goalkeeper, describing his invitation as a victory for his administration’s sustained investment in the sports sector.
“Hearty congratulations to our own dear Bendel Insurance goalkeeper, Amas Obasogie, on your call-up to the national team, the Super Eagles ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qualifier games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.”
“Amas, your call-up is indeed another win for our sustained investment in the sports sector in Edo, with a keen focus on returning Bendel Insurance to its rightful place as a home for national team players. You are the second Bendel Insurance player to be called up to the national team in a space of one year.
“We are proud of your accomplishments and genius and wish you success in this new and exciting chapter of your football career, even as we are confident that you will continue to shine and bring more laurels and glory to the State and Nigeria.”
