Ammunition at a Russian military base has gone up in flames after a huge explosion was triggered.
The inferno erupted after a suspected kamikaze drone strike on the supply depot near Volgograd in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Footage shows a massive fireball swirling from the Russian Ministry of Defence facility, believed to be filled with missiles, at around 1am.
An external drone attack has not been ruled at the army base in Kotluban village, given it was previously attacked by Ukraine in September.
‘Warehouses or a train loaded with shells exploded in a military unit,’ said an eyewitness.
‘It all happened at about 1am.’
It will come as a huge blow to Vladimir Putin and his war against Ukraine to lose such a large amount of ammunition.

Explosions were reported at the military site before the fire, reported Astra media outlet.
Some residents fled the village fearing their homes would be caught in the large fire.
Volgograd region governor Andrei Bocharov admitted the explosion and said: ’A fire occurred on the territory of one of the military units near the village of Kotluban.
‘There were no casualties or damage to civilian facilities. The circumstances of the fire are being investigated.’

Another theory behind the explosion is sabotage, due to the increasing number of sabotage attacks inside Russia linked to the war in Ukraine.
An emergency ministry source said: ‘There were no casualties among the civilian population, there was no destruction of the village’s infrastructure, and no evacuation was required.’
The authorities later said that the blaze was brought under control and subsequently extinguished.
At the weekend, Ukraine also reportedly hit a Russian gunpowder factory and missile plant in a separate drone attack.
