The Anambra State National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Awka has affirmed the election of the Labour Party candidate in Ogbaru federal constituency in the February 25 election, Hon. Victor Afam Ogene, as winner of the election.
The panel headed by Justice S. Y. Abubakar dismissed the petition challenging Ogene’s victory by the PDP candidate, Hon Chukwuka Onyema, as lacking merit and unanimously affirmed Hon. Ogene who is also the chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Renewable Energy as winner of the poll after a supplementary conducted by INEC on April 15.
Justice B. M. Kucheri who read the judgment declared that the petition brought by Onyema failed to prove all his claims against Ogene’s victory.
Earlier, while reviewing the petition the tribunal judges had dismissed Onyema’s claim that elections were not held in about seven polling units of the constituency.
The tribunal further dismissed the petitioner’s claim that Ogene was not a bonafide member of the Labour Party under which platform he contested and won the election at the time he was nominated candidate of the party.
