More than 10 Brits are feared dead or missing after Hamas fighters launched an unprecedented attack on Israel over the weekend, it has been reported.
One Brit has been confirmed killed so far on the first day of the airstrikes, and two more are missing.
But the numbers are likely to increase as some of the worst violence in decades in the region rages on.
The UK Foreign Office has declined to comment on the BBC report, citing official sources.
The conflict has had an immediate global impact, with several countries reporting nationals killed, abducted or missing.
Among them are the UK, the US, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, Nepal, Thailand and Ukraine.
