Mauricio Pochettino singled out Cole Palmer for praise after the Chelsea youngster caught the eye again in Saturday’s thumping win over Burnley.

The Blues recorded a third straight win, coming from behind to record a resounding win at Turf Moor and appear to have turned a significant corner under their new manager.

Palmer, a surprise deadline day signing from Manchester City, was involved in the majority of Chelsea’s most impressive attacking moments against the Clarets and underlined his confidence by taking the penalty which put his side ahead soon after the break.

Pochettino conceded earlier this month that he had little input in the decision to sanction the signing of the England Under-21 international but has been delighted with Palmer’s increasingly regular contributions.

‘He is a very talented player and he has the quality and he surprised me when I arrived because,’ said Pochettino.

‘It was the day before the transfer window closed. the way the he reads the situations and what the team needs in every situation, he can be the player who can link with his team-mates.

‘He is still very very young but with great personality and he has the talent and the quality which we saw today.’

Chelsea will now head into the international break in a significantly better place than they were a month ago and can now look forward to welcoming more players back ahead of the visit of Arsenal in a fortnight’s time.

‘To improve players, try to recover players from injury in two weeks, we’re going to spend working in the training ground,’ added Pochettino.

‘Of course different mood from the last time, last month. With a victory, it is much better. I think pushing, keep pushing and working hard to try and be better.’
