The Chkalovsky Airfield, near the Russian capital
Saboteurs believed to be linked to Ukraine have blown up two airplanes and a helicopter in Russia.
The audacious strike took place at a military base where Vladimir Putin keeps his Il-60 Doomsday aircraft, which he would deploy in the event of a nuclear war.
Explosives were placed on the closely guarded Chkalovsky Air Base, near Moscow.
Damage was inflicted on AN-148 and IL-20 aircraft, both belonging to the 354th Special Operations Aviation Regiment.
A MI-28N helicopter, which had previously been engaged in taking down drones, also suffered a hit in the tail.
Images released by Ukrainian intelligence show the damage, which caused ‘quite a bit of hysteria in the higher military ranks’.
Russian authorities are currently on a hunt for the unidentified saboteurs thought to be linked with Ukraine.
According to the defece ministry, they are working to ‘limit the dissemination of information’ about the incident in the local media.
