A British former soldier who died after volunteering to fight for Ukraine may have been ‘tortured and killed’ by another UK fighter.
Jordan Chadwick, 31, from Burnley, Lancashire, made his way to the war-torn country in October 2022 to ‘support freedom’, his family has said.
The former Scots Guard fought for the International Legion – a band of hundreds of foreign fighters who have backed the Ukrainian armed forces.
Chadwick’s body was found in water with his hands tied behind his back near Kramatorsk, northwest of Bakhmut, in June.
But Chadwick’s comrades have claimed a fellow British fighter waterboarded him, The Sun reported.
Ahead of an inquest into Chadwick’s death next February, Ukrainian investigators have found the water in his lungs does not match where he was found.

Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation, which probes criminal proceedings involving police, soldiers and top officials, is handling the investigation.
The agency, also known as DBR, has not publically commented on the probe, nor has Britain’s Embassy in Kyiv.
The Telegraph reported last week that Chadwick served with Team 50/50, a shadowy unit within the Legion’s military intelligence wing, the Legionnaires Special Service Group (LSSG).
Chadwick may have been shot in a petty quarrel or killed in an ‘initiation’ ceremony gone awry, the newspaper added, citing reports.
It comes after another Brit who volunteered to fight alongside Ukraine, Daniel Burke, was found dead.
The last time Burke, a Manchester local who founded his own foreign volunteer group, the Dark Angels, was heard from in August he was in Zaporizhzhia, a major energy hub.

His worried family alerted the authorities, spurring a weeks-long search that ended when a body was discovered.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed on Saturday that they are working with their Ukrainian counterparts to positively identify the body.
Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation has been approached for comment.
