The 18-hole green course of the Kaduna Golf Club in Ungwan Rimi Kaduna, Kaduna State, will come alive once again this weekend as no fewer than 250 golfers from across the country will be competing for honour in the Captain Ken Nwankwo’s inaugural tournament.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, a member and former captain of the club, Mr Mike Okpere, said the event will showcase Mr Ken Nwankwo who has within the short time of his leadership as captain transformed the Kaduna Golf Club and brings back the sweet memories of the first golf club in Northern Nigeria.
He said over 250 golfers from across the country, including captains of other top golf clubs, diplomats and professionals will swing for laurels in the inaugural tournament showcasing Mr Nwankwo to the rest of the world.
“As captain, Ken has transformed the Kaduna Golf Club and because of his developmental stride, all old members of the club have returned.
“So, we are using his inaugural tournament to celebrate and showcase Ken to the world that it is a new dawn in Kaduna Golf Club,” he said.
The celebrant, Ken Nwankwo, promised to organise more tournaments that will generate revenues for the club, saying what currently to the club by way of registration is no longer sustainable.
“We can’t overstress the members because we have a standard subscription which they buy into and we will not push them to where they cannot cope or disturb their pockets. We are trying to move away from that and improve our revenue generation through other means by rebranding the club and organising more tournaments,’ Nwankwo said.
