Why We Endorsed Gov Diri’s Re-election Bid – Ijaw Group

The Pan Ijaw Political Action Group (PIPAG), has endorsed the second term ambition of Senator Douye Diri as governor of Bayelsa State.

This was disclosed by the chairman, Hon. Bolous Indiamaowei, during a press briefing held yesterday at the NUJ Press Centre in Yenagoa, the state capital.

According to Indiamaowei, the solidarity and endorsement of PIPAG which is an assemblage of Ijaws cutting across the three Ijaw National Congress (INC) structural zones of the Ijaw nation, is sequel to the unassailable achievements recorded by the Prosperity administration in the last three and half years in the state.

He noted that in consonance with their commitment and determination to actualise a second tenure for Governor Douye Diri, a mega Ijaw National mass rally intended to draw one million participants and volunteers across the Ijaw Nation and diaspora is being put together by the Pan Ijaw Political Action Committee which is scheduled for October at the Peace Park in Yenagoa.

The chairman further stated that Governor Diri is an exemplary political leaders with strong commitment to service delivery and infrastructure development, adding that he has exceeded the expectations of the people of Bayelsa State and the Ijaw Nation as a whole.

He said, “As you may know,, Bayelsa State was once characterized by politically motivated killings, insecurity, cult related violence, massive infrastructure deficit and poverty. However, upon assumption of office, he embraced all political divides in the state as one big family with a disposition to peace, humility, good governance, accessibility, courage, strong determination and demonstrated commitment and capacity for development.

“This in the last eclipsing three and half years under consideration, the Prosperity administration has exceeded the track records and achievements of all his predecessors in terms of critical infrastructure delivery, political stability, social harmony, cohesiveness and human capital development. He has exhibited the highest sense of support and commitment to providing incentives to the State Civil Service and pensioners”.

Indiamaowei warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and its collaborators not to indulge in actions and activities that will undermine the credibility, peace and security during and after the election

He also condemned the premeditated political hostilities from the opposition political parties and warned that the elections are not do or die as it has been in Bayelsa State

“Regrettably, however, with barely three months to the November 11thoff circle governorship election, opposition merchants of political violence in their usual characteristics have been noticed fanning the embers of political instability, thuggery, ballot snatching, voter intimidation and all manner of infractions.

“You are aware of how scores of persons were killed and several others injured in the build up to the 2019 general elections in the Nembe axis unleashed by the opposition. This is barbaric, inhuman, unwarranted and must be condemned by all men of courage and good conscience”, he said.
