The line-up of movies for this year’s Nollywood In Hollywood event scheduled for Hollywood, California on September 22 and 23 has been revealed.
The retrospective classic, Things Fall Apart based on the book of the same title and No Longer At Ease by the prolific author, Chinua Achebe will headline the event. The film was initially released in 1971.
“For me, Nollywood In Hollywood is Nigeria’s most notable cultural diplomacy event and the cultural stage doesn’t get bigger than Hollywood. I am very particular that the world sees the other, better and true side of Nigeria and it starts with the world hearing our stories on the biggest stage,“ says the Nigerian-American filmmaker, Ose Oyamendan, who founded the event six years ago in partnership with two Hollywood heavyweights, School of Cinema-Television at University of Southern California, world’s premier film institution and American Cinematheque, the most prestigious screening institution in Hollywood.
He added: “Things Fall Apart was an easy choice. We feel it is important to show Hollywood and the world that Nigerian stories on film dates back a long time. You know, there’s a thought out there that our history did not start until colonialists crossed the Atlantic and the Arabs came through the dessert.”
Nigeria’s best film of the year, The Trade by Jadesola Osiberu and the Berlin International Film Festival award winner, All The Colors Of The World Are Between Black And White by Babatunde Opalowo are other films in the showcase that includes networking events, panel discussions, and glamorous opening night party.
Nollywood In Hollywood is an annual Hollywood screening of the top three
Nollywood films in the year, as determined by a jury. The films are screened to a select audience of Hollywood executives, agents, professionals, Nigerians in the Diaspora, and film lovers.
