The mum of a 10-year-old girl found dead at home has described the grief she felt when she identified her daughter’s body in the mortuary.
Sara Sharif was found at her home in Woking, Surrey after police were called from Pakistan by her father on August 10.
A post-mortem examination later found she had suffered ‘multiple and extensive injuries’ over a ‘sustained and extended’ period of time.
Sara was living with her father Urfan Sharif and his partner Beinash Batool when she died – and an international manhunt for the pair has been launched after they fled the country the day before her body was found.
Olga Sharif, Sara’s mother, has previously urged Mr Sharif and Ms Batool to come forward, and has previously said ‘life will never be the same’ after the death of her daughter.
She has also slammed claims from Mr Sharif’s brother, Imran, that her daughter fell down the stairs and broke her neck, saying: ’If there was an accident you don’t leave the country in secret.’
Speaking on Polish television programme Uwaga! on the TVN Channel, Olga described the harrowing experience of identifying her daughter’s body in the mortuary.
She told the programme: ‘One of her cheeks was swollen and the other side was bruised.
‘Even now, when I close my eyes I can see what my baby looked like.’
Olga said in the interview she had separated from her husband in 2015, and Sara and her older brother had been living with her until 2019 when the family court ruled they should live with their father.
She still had equal rights to see the children, and said while that was easy to maintain initially it became increasingly harder over time.
