The chairman of the Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia, Coach John Obuh, has promised to sponsor the training of 40 grassroot coaches in the state for a course.
The former Flying Eagles handler who made the promise at the maiden edition of the ‘Train-The-Trainers workshop’ organized by the Youth Sub- Committee of Abia State FA Football Association, expressed his displeasure on the nonchalant attitude of the coaches in relation with coaching education.
He said that he is facilitating the organisation of the course which would be held in the state.
He advised the coaches to embrace whatever opportunities that are available to them to improve on their knowledge.
Obuh commended the initiators of the maiden workshop, while imploring the FA and Coaches Association in the state to ensure that all Coaches in the state are properly affiliated with the relevant bodies.
Abia State FA chairman, Dr Obioma Onyeaghala, was full of appreciation to the chairman of Abia Warriors FC, who is also the first Coach from Abia State that led a national team to win the silver medal in a FIFA World Cup, for the gesture, saying the FA is not taking the opportunity for granted, as they will make maximum use of it to enhance the knowledge of the coaches in the coaching profession.
He was full of appreciation to the Youth Sub-Committee of FA, led by Patrick Ngwaogu (Odogwu) for coming up with such an idea which is the first in the state for over a decade.
He promised that the program will be a continuous one throughout his tenure in the FA.
The Chairman of Youth Development Sub Committee of FA, Patrick Ngwaogu, said the program is aimed at properly equipping the grassroot coaches for the benefit of football development in the state and the country in general.
He said indications revealed that 80 percent of the grassroot players hardly attain their potential in the game of football because of poor orientation and training they received at the incubation period of their career.
Ngwaogu opined that the grassroot remains the fulcrum to which football development revolves.
