Ian Maatsen is set to stay at Chelsea despite the club accepting a £31.5 million offer from Burnley, according to reports.
The 21-year-old excelled during his loan spell with Burnley in the Championship last season and Vincent Kompany’s side have been eager to make the move permanent this summer.
However, Maatsen has impressed Mauricio Pochettino during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations and the versatile Dutchman looked ready to challenge for a regular first-team place.
According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea accepted an offer from Burnley on Friday which was a loan with an obligation to buy for £31.5m.
However, it’s understood that Maatsen has spoken to Kompany and has expressed his reluctance to join Burnley on what would eventually be a permanent basis.

Speaking about Maatsen during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign, Pochettino said: ‘I am so happy with him.
‘He is a player that can play in different positions. He has quality, he understands the game, and he is such a clever player.’

Elsewhere, Mason Burstow has completed his season-long loan move to Sunderland.
