It was American author, Sarah Ban Breathnack who said that the world needs dreamers and also doers. United States-trained young entrepreneur, Babawande Afolabi falls into those two categories. Ten years ago when Babawande dreamt of establishing an airline that would compete favourably with many across the shore of Africa, some of his friends sneered at him. Of course, those who know Babawande attest to the fact that once he sets his mind on a project, he pursues it with gusto and never looks back until he achieves success.
When the young man in his 30s eventually announced his presence in the tough terrain of the aviation business with his Green Africa Airways, not a few were stunned. Within a short space, the self-effacing Osun State-born investment strategist has registered his name among the high-flying businessmen set to change the narrative of the Nigerian aviation space and who have also taken many out of the labour market as his airline already employed hundreds of staff.
At the moment, Babawande is definitely putting to good use his international investment and financing background to pull resources behind his new airline that now flies into several destinations like Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Akure, Enugu, Ilorin and lately, Ibadan. Spotlight gathered that Babawande’s airline is expecting a delivery of more brand new aircraft from Boeing to join the fleet of the up and running planes plying many Nigerian cities at the moment.
