Wilson was the best man on the trip and has confessed to being “worse for wear” at the time of the altercation.

An argument had broken out with Portuguese cops over the cost of a kebab.

“One of my friends was overcharged – which we weren’t happy about,” Wilson told the Metro.

“The police came and before I said a word he wrapped his baton round my leg. I had a bit of a limp, it was sore for a few days.

“It was just a bit of a misunderstanding but it is one to remember.”

The Warrior had been seen limping around the table earlier this summer whilst competing in the Championship League.

Despite the injury, he was able to win all three of his opening round matches and two of his three contests in the second phase.

Wilson was relieved to still be able to perform despite his freak injury.

“It was nice because I’d just got back from a stag do three days before, so I was pleased with how I performed,” he added.

“I was very much worse for wear, as you’re supposed to be on a stag do. I was best man as well so it was my job to make sure the groom was well intoxicated.”

He is now back at full-strength and defending his European Masters title in Nuremberg this week.

The 31-year-old is the number one seed at the tournament and faces fellow Englishman Alfie Burden in the first round.
