Forgotten Arsenal flop in line for shock transfer to top Premier League rival as their previous move fell through

ASTON VILLA are in talks with Arsenal over a move for Nuno Tavares after his transfer to Nottingham Forest collapsed.

The Gunners flop was targeting a potential move to Steve Cooper’s side last week.

However, negotiations between the two Premier League teams became increasingly complicated and the deal is now off.

The Portuguese international joined the Gunners for just over £7m in 2021 from Benfica.

He showed signs of potential, stepping into the team in place of Kieran Tierney.

Tavares, who spent last season on loan with Marseille and scored six times in 31 league matches to help them finish third in Ligue 1, wanted to stay this season and fight for his place on Arteta’s side.

But the 23-year-old is not a part of Mikel Arteta’s immediate plans for this season.

Unai Emery now has his eyes on taking the full-back from his old club to his current one.

Emery is keen on the move as he looks to revamp his squad and build on last season’s seventh place.

Villa got their first win of the season yesterday, thrashing Everton 4-0 at home.

Tavares has also reportedly been a target for a pair of Bundesliga clubs.

Both Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen have been said to be interested in him in recent weeks.
