GARY LINEKER made a name for himself with a fabulous fact about Spain’s match-winning moniker in the Women’s World Cup final.
The England legend noted that Olga Carmona was the first scorer in such a showpiece match “whose name is an anagram of goal”.

Carmona sunk the Lionesseses in the Sydney final as the European champions were largely outpassed.
And in the end Sarina Wiegman‘s side lost at worldplay too – as even late sub Beth ENGLAND failed to get them out of “gaol” with a goal.
Fans, however, believe pundit Lineker was an anagram slam winner.
The ex-Barcelona hitman tweeted during the Lionesses’ 1-0 defeat: “England trail at halftime. Surely the first goal ever scored in a World Cup final by someone whose name is an anagram of goal.”
“Class tweet Gary,” responded one admirer, and “If only we could bring on Lise Requal,” said a tactical genius.
One historian of footballing anagrams did try to correct Lineker.
He posted: “Close, but absolutely no cigar: Alejandro Lago (played for Uruguay 2003-2004).”
But another fan intercepted that feeble shot by pointing out: “Don’t think Uruguay were in the WC final that year pal… “

And after England narrowly failed to add World Cup glory to the single success of their men in 1966, perhaps the final word should be on the hat-trick hero of that 4-2 win over West Germany.
One fan wrote: “Geoff Hurst is an anagram of Great Finish. Nearly.”
Hopefully that’s the end for dodgy attempts to match Lineker’s awesome effort. They think it’s all Olga – it is now…
