Man Utd fans have ‘tears in their eyes’ as footage emerges of Onana in keepy-uppy challenge with new team-mates

MANCHESTER UNITED supporters cannot contain their excitement to finally have a ball-playing goalkeeper – and it went into overdrive after a clip of Andre Onana performing a keepy-uppy challenge went viral.

The Red Devils announced the £47million signing of Onana from Inter Milan this week.

Onana, 27, joins the club after they made the goalkeeper their number one priority following the departure of De Gea.

The deal sees Onana – who has signed a five-year deal with an option for a further season – become the third most expensive goalkeeper in football history.

Only Chelsea‘s £72m world record signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Liverpool’s £67m acquisition of Alisson – both in 2018 – are larger than Onana’s move to Old Trafford.

United will pay an initial fee of £43m for the Cameroon international, with add-ons taking the total value to around £47m.

That has secured Erik ten Tag a modern day goalie that is equally as good with his feet as his hands – something many felt De Gea could not offer.

And Onana is someone that very much has his priorities in order when it comes to his footballing philosophies.

De Gea, 32, was left out of Spain’s World Cup squad as he does not fit with his country’s style of play.

Onana did make the cut for Cameroon, however, there were soon fireworks when he was asked to change his own style to a more traditional one.

That led to a row with management when he refused to change his ball-playing ways, resulting in Onana being removed from the squad and flying home.

However, he will be very much encouraged to use his feet just as much as his hands under Ten Hag.

And supporters cannot wait to see it after footage of him joining in a keepy-up challenge with his new team-mates was shared online.

Onana comfortably controlled the ball with his left foot, kicked it up with his right, and then produced a neat flick to a new United pal.

“TEARS IN MY EYES,” responded one supporter to the clip.

“Us moving from one end of the spectrum to the other end is crazy, De Gea is one of the worst goalkeepers with their feet while Onana is top tier,” wrote a fellow fan.

Another said: “We’ve finally got it… A ball playing keeper.”

Another tweeter wrote: “De Gea sends the ball back to Manchester if he tried that.”

That theme continued as excitement mounted, with a fan saying: “A keeper with good feet not seen this at my club for time.”

Another added: “Our gk is dominant and can play football.”

While a fellow fan declared that he was “already the best GK in the Prem.”
