Who is George Osborne?

George Osborne, born May 23, 1971, is a British former politician and newspaper editor who served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 2010 to 2016, under Tory PM David Cameron.

A member of the Conservative Party, Osborne was an MP for Tatton from 2001 to 2017, making him the youngest Conservative MP in the Commons at the time.

He was also First Secretary of State from May 2015 until July 2016.

Osborne served on the backbenches for a year before leaving public office at the 2017 general election

He then went on to become the editor of the Evening Standard from 2017 to 2020.

In a letter to Conservatives in his constituency of Tatton, the former Chancellor said he was leaving Westminster “for now” – but vowed to stay active on issues he is passionate about.

In the letter, he thanked the locals, saying they had “achieved a lot together”.

But while saying he was happy with the work he had done, he said he wanted a new challenge and was therefore taking up the role as editor.

At the time he wrote: “I will go on fighting for that Britain I love from the editor’s chair of a great newspaper.

“It’s still too early to be writing my memoirs.”

In 2020, the former chancellor of the exchequer stood down from his role as editor of London‘s Evening Standard newspaper, to move to the more managerial role of the newspaper’s editor-in-chief.

However, a year later in 2021, Mr Osborne left his job at the London Evening Standard to join financial consultants Robey Warshaw.

Robey Warshaw was founded in 2013, and in a statement the company said the former Conservative MP would “significantly enhance the advice we give to clients”.

Osborne, who was born and educated in London, also worked as an adviser to the BlackRock Investment Institute from 2017 to 2021.
